Be Still My Soul

Be Still My Soul
Be Still My Soul

Are you like me?  You try to keep current on the news by either watching the evening news or reading it each day...but then there are weeks,  when you feel yourself in despair from that news.  Last week was one of those weeks for me.  The main reason was all of the suffering incurred at and after the Orlando night club shooting.  I didn't know anyone personally who was shot or even anyone who lost a loved during the attack, but I found myself feeling hopeless and helpless.  I feel for the families and friends and I feel for our nation and all mankind!  I couldn't think of anything that I can to do to better this crazy mixed up world...anything to encourage others or even help myself deal with the horrible events that are becoming more and more common place.

So when I came across a photo of this scene that I had saved to paint someday, I felt moved to paint it immediately.  The hours I spent in front of my easel working on this piece were very cathartic! Not only did it help me to loose myself in the painting process, but it also helped me to focus on God and the beauty of His creation!  If you like the scene, feel free to download a copy of it onto your electronic device.  If you post it on social media, I only ask that you give me the credit for the painting.  My friend Gayle Andrews Graverson took the photo that inspired the painting (which I had gotten permission to use).

Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening on

When we shall be forever with the Lord,

When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,

Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,

All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

(the Lutheran Hymnal, Hymn #651, Verse 4,  Text: Psalm 46:10).

The storm knocked out TV out and I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. The news overwhelms me as well. I'm so amazed at God's timing and the ways he can bring comfort to our souls. Thanks for sharing!
