The First Brush of Spring

Where Dreams Begin (my studio piece)
Where Dreams Begin (my studio piece)

I just got done boxing up my two paintings for the Field To Finish Contest and Exhibit at the Hoosier Salon in New Harmony, Indiana. The event is held every year during Indiana Plein Air Painter's First Brush of Spring Paint Out.  For this exhibit artists paint one plein air painting one year, have their painting stamped at the end of the paint out and then paint a larger studio painting during the following year based on the plein air piece.  Both pieces are then displayed during the next First Brush of Spring event and into the month of May.  This exhibit is only one piece of the puzzle that makes up IPAPA's annual and largest paint out.  If you love plein air painting, or if you want to do something different over the weekend of April 16th, I would highly recommend a visit to New Harmony, Indiana.  Normally 100 or more plein air artists converge on this quaint little town in the south-west tip of Indiana.  I believe painters from as far away as California have been in attendance!   Many of the top landscape painters from Indiana and surrounding states will there also.   I personally am looking forward to painting outside in warmer weather than we can hope for in Northern Indiana, for perhaps weeks to come!    Both my husband and I enjoy reconnecting with many of the artists and their spouses, along with art enthusiasts who we have met over the years.  There also is something happening every evening during the paint out so I know we won't be bored!

New Harmony itself is wonderful town to visit at any time of the year, due to its unique heritage and subsequent charming buildings, and gardens.  Saturday will be the big day for art enthusiasts during the First Brush of Spring, (April 16th).  There will be contest to select the top paintings from the paint out and also an art sale with work being sold from many of the artists.  For more information visit: http://www.inpainters.org/nh%20schedule2011.pdf.   Let me know if you plan to come!

Nice article and it was absolutely a great time. I'm looking forward to next year. I hope you'll keep me posted on other plein air opportunities.
