An Evening at the Castle

Indiana Skies, pastel
Friday evening my husband and I attended an opening for the Spring Exhibit at the Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I felt fortunate that the owner of the gallery had agreed to take on three of my paintings, rather close to the date the show opened. I told my husband that I would be happy even if my work was in a little a nook somewhere, because that is one of the top galleries in the state. When we arrived it was dark outside and for the first time I really appreciated all of the space that Castle has. It is in a beautiful stone home that really does resemble a small castle. Wonderful art is displayed on three floors in nearly every room. The place was totally packed when we arrived, but we set off to see all the beautiful art and find my work.
Two of my pieces were on the lovely third floor. I found the third piece, Indiana Skies, on the second floor in a beautiful cozy bedroom. Since that was the largest piece and in the most prominent place, I ended up spending a good part of the evening in that room. I must say, I was impressed with the people that came through during the evening. Many actually took time to really look at most of the art in the room and some stopped to chat with me or one of the other artists whose work was on that floor.
The people who liked my pastel often commented on how they too loved seeing skies like the one in my piece. I also heard several people say that they liked the composition and simplicity of the piece. That made me glad, because that is what I love about this piece. Often I tend to gravitate toward complicated, or more closed in spaces in my work, but in life, I am drawn to the vast skies that I see everyday so I hope to be able to do more work that carries the same uncluttered feel to it.
Mixing with so many talented artists and art enthusiasts is just what I needed to get my batteries recharged. Now I can't wait to begin my next painting! If you would like more information on the Castle Gallery please visit: www.castlegallery.com.
